Skin Texture(s)

The finishing touches with the clay mask involve small pore details and skin textural inconsistencies being made to the casting. I really want to emphasise the hyperrealist nature LifeCasting and am trying to avoid smooth casting finishing techniques as much as possible. This involves modelling tools and a scalpel to make small marks onto the… Continue reading Skin Texture(s)

Sculpture & Texture

Layering: perhaps a clay/silicone layered depiction Found images that display some very interesting sculptural textures and shapes that could influence further castings within my practise. Although I remain interested in very hyperrealist depictions of the human face, I feel that more abstract, experimental depiction could also be an interesting comparison. Textual techniques: Full body casting that… Continue reading Sculpture & Texture

Lifecasting Photoshoot

I felt that it is important to document this process, and as a result I have used the photography studio to capture the details of my (2) Easy Flow Casts and the Monster Clay Busts before I make the necessary refining to the objects. This I  feel was successful in capturing the finer details of the… Continue reading Lifecasting Photoshoot

Monter Clay Casting

A secondary aspect of the casting is to create a clay bust. More in line with my experience of sculpture (as seen in the V&A and The British Museum), this I feel is an important part of the refining process. What (Monster) Clay Moulds will allow me to do is to really sharpen up at… Continue reading Monter Clay Casting

Abjection – 08.02.16

The Return of the Abject – Julia Kristeva’s ‘Powers of the Horror‘/”Pouvoirs de l’horreur (1982) The work is an extensive treatise on the subject of abjection, and draws on the theories of Sigmund Freud and Jacques Lacan to examine horror, marginalization, castration, the phallic signifier, the “I/Not I” dichotomy, the Oedipal complex, exile, and other concepts appropriate to feminist criticism and queer theory. According to Kristeva, the abject marks a… Continue reading Abjection – 08.02.16

Remoulding Cast

This initial casting was very nerve-racking for me as I was unsure as to whether I had mixed together the correct quantity of Easy Flow (1A:1B). In addition, when looking at the initial drying period of the resin, I could see the mood itself sagging and creasing within the interior of the cast which signalled… Continue reading Remoulding Cast

Comparative Photos

As you can see there is great similarity between the car and the sitter. Although there is significant finishing that need to be cone to the cast(s), I feel that it will be greatly improved by casting in Clay and remoulding to make the details more smoother and defined, before resting in a silicone mould.

Easy Flow Casting

***Note that these cast(s) need to sanded significantly, with unwanted areas removed before being photographed in the photography studio in the following weeks In-Studio Imagery Cast 1: *** detail contained with this initial casting (i specific reference to the fair fibres and skin fragments over the entire profile of the face) has given me ideas in terms of the later Silicone Casting… Continue reading Easy Flow Casting
