The Shape of Behaviour – 19.10.15

  • The relationship between ‘things’ and ‘meaning’
  • Prehensile (capable of grasping) vision
  • Contemplation and tactile (of or relating to sense or touch) contemplation
  • The difference between (active) ‘involvement’ and (passive) ‘observation’
  • Does physical shape have precedence over contextual meaning – which comes first?
  • Does ‘shape of behaviour’ affect meaning?

THE MEANING OF A WORD IS ITS USE!

Questions:
  • What is the relation between the ‘physical shape’ of an artefact, or act, and the meaning it has?
  • What is the difference between something appearing in the ‘everyday context’ and in it appearing ‘isolated’ from context, when we are merely observing it?
  • What comes first – physical shape or contextual meaning?
  • What is the relation between the ‘shape of behaviour’ and ‘meaning’?
  • What is the nature of the context in which things appear, and where does it arise?
