  • Essay across 2 units
  • 2pm Monday Lecture weekly
  • Unit 7: 2000 word essay (25th Jan 2016)
  • Essay 2: 3000 words (slightly longer than initial essay)
  • More specificity in essays
    Dissertation beginning in the summer term

Unit 7:
***Due Jan 25th 2016

  • Ability to articulate theoretical context with confidence and vigour
  • More general line of enquiry to a more focused position
  • Helpful in dissertation writing
  • Stage 2 essays will lead to dissertation writing at the end of the term
  • Start dissertation research now for later in Stage 2
  • Make notes throughout the year in terms of dissertation proposals – put on blog – Themes explored in essay 1 (Unit 7) must be reflected upon in essay 2 (Unit 8)
  • Make use of London as a tool for research
  • Read exhibition reviews in terms of how to reflect upon anothers work theoretically
  • Essay will be in a topic of your choice (not necessarily art related) but must not review work . The ability to reflect upon your own interests that have some relation to studio practise
  • Reflect upon larger issues through a specific object (cultural, physical etc.)

Dissertation 6000-8000 words

Week 9 Tutorial – Discussion of Unit 7 proposal

Territories of Practise (Unit 5)
Year 2: Weeks 2-10
***There’s no possibility of an artwork without context
***All meaning is collectively produced
***Art is a form of experimental research

Thurs 29th am- 15-20 min Collective Presentation to Tutor Group (see Bullet Points)

Week 4 (26th Oct)

Thurs 29th am  15-20 min Collective Presentation (groups of 3-7) to Tutor Group

–  What sort of location/audience does your work require?

–  How might your work gather or engage that audience?

Week 5 (2nd Nov)

Thurs 5th am – Mixed Group Discussion on Collective Interest

-Shared-interest ‘territory’ groups (not tutor groups) with tutors based on shared interest

-Extension of Week 4 presentations

-Discussion/Planning of Week 6 Gallery Visits

Thurs 5th pm – Collective Group Tutorials with tutors based on shared interest

 

Week 6 (9th Nov)
Thurs 11th – Student led Gallery crits
– with shared interest territories (not tutor groups) over 4-6 galleries

Week 7 (16t Nov)
Thurs 19th – 10 min collective Presentation to half year group

Thurs 26th – Theory tutor Groups with collective in shared interest groups

2:1 Individual Theory/Practise Tutorials with personal tutors

-Progress of Blog

-Evaluative Report – 500-700 words due the following week (Monday 7th?)

Week 10 (7th Dec)
Mon 7th at 12 Noon – Blog and Evaluative Report Deadline

Report – Discusses the relationship between studio practice and the ‘territory’ you have been collectively defining.

-How have you contributed to your collective and how has the collective shaped your practice?

Blog – Record of research activities & interests and a mix of collective & individual

Week 10
Wed 9th – Private View (Triangle and Cookhouse)

Thurs 10th – Exhibition/Events/Discussions etc.
– work may be individual piece by each members of the collective or a single collective piece

-‘Research-based’ show – no distinction between research material and artwork.

-Work together to decide form of presentation for the term’s activities of each ‘territory’ collective.

-Exhibition? Films? Publications? Symposia?
