Zines

In response to some group discussions about the collective exhibition at the end of the term, I have decided about the style of my work and how it could be adapted to wrk as a Zine.

A Zine is a:

zine/ziːn/
noun (informal)
plural noun: ‘zines; plural noun: zines
1. a magazine, especially a fanzine.

Urban  Dictionary:

“Zine” is short for fanzine. For all intensive purposes, a zine is a cheaply-made, cheaply-priced publication, often in black and white, which is mass-produced via photocopier and bound with staples.  Most zines revolve around a music scene of some sort, but others are dedicated to artwork, poetry, cartoons, editorials and short stories. Because zines do not have any sort of corporate backing, they are very rugged, individualized, and much more charismatic than larger, more popular magazines whose content is often dictated by their advertisers.

What I like about the zine is how it allows my work to escape a very flat, rudimentary presentation of many drawings, whist uniting my work with my ‘collective’. Furthermore, it will allow the usual style of my work to become a lot more rugged and graphic like, allowing my work to be multiplied in massive number or to be a part of a series that fills an entire small Zine.

In this way, it also leave open the possibility to create a limited edition hand drawn zine which would require sketching opposed to a number of finally detailed drawings.

To this I will now have to begin to think about the types of drawings, whether they will able to reduce indefinitely (without a loss of quality), the style of Zine, or whether indeed my work will take a book form (as it so often does) or whether it could become a reparative pillow print, wallpaper design or much imagery
